Celtic could sanction a move for Johnny Kenny before the window slams shut today, with interest growing in the striker from both Scotland and England.

The Celts are considering letting the striker leave on loan. This comes after the arrival of Tomáš Čvančara and the imminent signing of Junior Adamu. Both bolster the striking options, and with a move now being thought about, it appears that Martin O'Neill favours them over Kenny.

The Irishman has been sidelined with a calf injury, and he would likely be down the pecking order upon his return. He hasn't been given many chances this season, only getting a solid run in the squad during O'Neill's first term as interim manager.

This isn't the first time Kenny has attracted interest from across the border. During the summer transfer window, Bolton Wanderers in League One were linked. They made an official bid and saw it rejected, but it is now alleged that they are one of the suitors again.

If he were to head down south, a deal would need to be completed by 19:00 GMT, as the English window closes four hours earlier than the Scottish one.

Kenny tipped for "big future" at Celtic

When Kenny signed his contract extension in the summer of last year, it was said by the manager at the time, Brendan Rodgers, that he had a "big future" at Celtic. It seems the club may have kept this belief despite Rodgers departure, as they appear reluctant to let him leave on a permanent basis.

It is rumoured that a bid was rejected for Kenny to transfer yesterday, with some supporters labelling the rejection as the club being unwilling to change their way of thinking. Fans think that they may want to hold on to as many players as possible so the next permanent manager will have something to work with going into next season.

Interest in Celtic players growing

Kenny certainly isn't the only Celtic player attracting interest as clubs are making moves for some starting squad members.

Celtic have rejected two bids from Nottingham Forest for Arne Engels, worth £14 million and £17 million respectively, and have now told the Premier League outfit that the midfielder is not for sale.

Austin Trusty also has clubs considering a bid, with Serie A's Lazio and Fiorentina interested in the American.

Domestically, Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou has also shown interest in bringing Stephen Welsh back to the club after he was recalled by Celtic earlier this month.
