Celtic have been in touch with a Premier League club over a surprising centre-back signing, journalist Simon Stone revealed.
The Hoops were one of the suitors for 20-year-old Tyler Fredricson, a Manchester United defender. It is reported that fellow Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen were also interested in a move, but the possibility is now off due to a late injury to the player.
Fredricson has made two appearances for United this season, both under former manager Ruben Amorim. He has made the matchday squad in the Premier League 10 times, and fans have been excited about his potential.
The Englishman seemed to be interested in a loan move rather than a permanent deal, with him wanting to stay at his boyhood club. Despite being named on the bench plenty of times, he has only managed two minutes of game time in the English top flight.
Celtic still in the market for a centre-back
Despite appearing as though a late move wouldn't happen, it was revealed yesterday that Celtic is still in the market for a centre-back.
Celtic have struggled with defensive cover this season after an injury to Cameron Carter-Vickers. Austin Trusty and Liam Scales have often been the partnership, with Dane Murray also appearing for the Celts on occasion.
For cover, Stephen Welsh was recalled from his loan spell at Motherwell earlier this month. He had a brilliant start to the season and became a fan favourite at the Well, but has found himself no further up the pecking order at Parkhead. A centre-back signing could pave the way for Welsh to return to Motherwell on loan.
Plenty of deadline day movement
There is plenty of deadline day movement for Celtic so far. Junior Adamu and Joel Mvuka have medicals ongoing, and deals have been confirmed.
As for outgoings, Johnny Kenny and Austin Trusty are still under consideration from European clubs, with two bids already rejected for Arne Engels from Nottingham Forest.
