Shannon McGregor made her return to the pitch on Sunday in Celtic Women's game against Partick Thistle.

Fans were excited when her name was included in the matchday squad for the first time since April 2025. Everyone was even more delighted when she actually took to the pitch, helping Celtic to their 3-2 victory at Petershill Park.

Hopefully, she will stay fit and be ready to help Celtic out in this title race. Glasgow City lost to Rangers on Sunday, meaning the Ghirls go into second place and stay four points off the league leaders. Although things looked dire after two draws to start the split, if every game is won from here on out, there is every chance that Grant Scott's side could lift the second league title in their history.

McGregor is looking forward to getting involved again and spoke after the game. She said:

"It was amazing to be involved in that and be back. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt that feeling! It was a pressure game to come on to, but it was really good to get back playing again.

It was just so special to be back on the pitch. I’ve worked so hard. It’s been nearly a year now, I think, so it meant a lot today, and I’m just happy to be back playing and part of the squad.

Of course, it makes it all worth the hard work you put in. I think you kind of forget how much hard work you have put in. But it definitely makes it all worth it. I’m just so happy, and hopefully, I can start to kick on from now.

Everyone has been amazing. All my team-mates, coaching staff, and we heard the fans today. It was great to have that support."

Not the only return

It wasn't only McGregor who made her return against Thistle as Chloe Craig was also back on the pitch. It was the defender's first appearance since December.

Craigy has been missed. We've really felt the impact of losing her through injury, so to have her back is also going to make a difference. These are two key players who are now back in action, and they are going to play a major part going into the final stages of the season.

The league is getting intense. With two games against Rangers and one game against City to play, as well as fixtures against league contenders Hearts, anything can happen. Right now, we are back in a good position to win the league, but things can change in an instant. The Ghirls are going to need to play perfect football, and with two amazing players back in the picture, that's only going to help their chances.
