Celtic Women's title hopes are hanging by a thread, with the squad having had two draws in two post-split games so far. So, what is next for Grant Scott's side in the Scottish Women's Premier League?
Fans would have been hoping for a better start to the split. Two massive games against reigning league champions Hibernian and title contenders Glasgow City were on the cards, but it looked as though Celtic may have had a chance. Sadly, despite moments of looking like a title-winning team, it just wasn't to be on both occasions.
Celtic currently sit third in the table on 43 points. Glasgow City occupy the top spot on 50 points, with Hearts second on 46. We are in a difficult position where, if they win all of their games, we need to beat Hearts to match them. All the while, we can't lose any games because Rangers could overtake us at any moment. Then, if we want to be in with any chance of lifting the league trophy, we need to beat City in our next meeting, which will take place at Petershill Park.
Celtic haven't made it easy for themselves.
There is absolutely no room for error from this point forward. The Hoops need to get three points from every game. Anything less is simply not good enough in this title race.
What next if Celtic don't win the league?
It has been a bit of a crazy season, with Elena Sadiku departing in the winter and Scott coming in to replace her. A managerial change is never easy, but hopes will be high for the next campaign, no matter how this one ends.
We will have to prepare for the mass exodus in the summer, as Celtic still suffer from the 'rotating door' method of losing players. Last year, several key squad members departed, and this season, it will be no different, with 16 players set to leave the club should no contract extensions be granted.
Some names that could leave include club captain Kelly Clark and key player Maria McAneny, so Scott will likely want to keep them. There has been no news on any contract extensions so far, so as things stand, they will depart in the summer.
Michael Nicholson was spotted at Celtic vs City in mid-week, and hopefully, he will have seen what we all can. This team needs investment, and it needs it now. For too long, the board have neglected women's football at Celtic, despite the squad competing in elite competitions like the UEFA Women's Champions League. It isn't good enough, and something needs to change.
Hopefully, in the summer, Scott will be backed financially, and he will be able to bring in the players that he needs to play his style of football. Once he has them, Celtic can do anything. It will be an interesting summer, no matter what happens in the SWPL by the end of the campaign.
