Celtic have made it difficult for themselves in the title race. After a 2-0 loss to Dundee United last time out, the Hoops took a big hit that saw them fall two points behind Rangers, whilst still being five points behind Hearts.

The Jambos are in the best position to steal the title, but with the split still to come and difficult games for all top six sides, it's going to be an exciting yet terrifying time to support a team in the title race.

Former Hearts midfielder Ryan Stevenson is quite confident with how things are going though, essentially claiming that the Edinburgh side has already taken the crown.

Stevenson said via RecordSport: "Hearts are just 180 minutes from winning the title.

"First things first, win at Livingston on Sunday and beat Motherwell on home soil, and I think the flag is in the bag for Derek McInnes and his team. Honestly, for me, six points from these next two matches before the split, and it’s over.

"I know there would be another five games to come with big tests amongst them, but I reckon Hearts could even lose one in that post-split spell and still win it as I just don’t see Rangers and Celtic going through the card unblemished themselves."

Speaking about Celtic, he said: "Of the three contenders, I think Celtic will buckle. Their last result when losing to Dundee United looked like a deal breaker. The pressure on them now, the disgruntlement between the fans and the board, I just don’t see them involved.

"Celtic need to win every game. I can’t see them doing that unless there’s a big upturn. And, as soon as they draw or lose another game, I reckon the wheels will just completely come off.

"They’ve stumbled their way to where they are right now in the table through the work of Martin O’Neill. He’s bridged the gap a wee bit and, obviously, they've got the Scottish Cup to go for, too.

"But Tannadice, a couple of Sundays ago, was the first time I thought O’Neill looked tired with it all, and his players struggled badly during the game. So that would leave Rangers as Hearts’ biggest challengers, and they’ve got to go to Gorgie after the split."

Celtic aren't out of the title race yet

Despite things looking much worse than they did before the Tannadice loss, the Hoops are not out of the title race just yet. If Martin O'Neill's side can play to the best of their abilities and balance all of the games that are coming their way, then a title win could still be on the horizon.

No matter what happens, there will be a lot of change for next season. Players will leave, and Celtic will be heavily involved in the transfer market to bring in reinforcements. O'Neill will be on his way out, with either Robbie Keane, Jens Berthel Askou or Roberto Martinez replacing the head coach.

We will need to see how this campaign pans out, but one thing is for sure: we won't be watching the same team next season, title win or not.
