Chris Sutton has delivered his brutal verdict on why Celtic will not win the Scottish Premiership title, and it is hard for fans to disagree with him.

The former striker knows what it takes to play for the Hoops, and he knows all about Martin O'Neill's style of management. He has seen it first-hand, and it has surely been difficult for him to watch the rocky performances of this campaign.

Now, he has given his thoughts after Celtic's 1-0 victory over St Mirren on Saturday. He said: "If Martin O'Neill is right with his calculations, he says Celtic need to win all five games. Celtic can't win the league with their level of performance. They just can't.

"Unless the wheels fall off Hearts and Rangers in their position, I just don't see it. Because performance is important. Why? Because they haven't beaten Hearts or Rangers all season, I don't think Hearts or Rangers fear Celtic. I don't think any team fears Celtic, and that's a problem.

"It's okay getting the Green Brigade back in and people talking about atmosphere, but where I think at Rangers and Hearts the whole club are connected, I don't think there is that connection at Celtic.

"And I'm talking about on the park as well, just the players. 112 goals last season, 59 this season, that's remarkable."

Sutton is spot on

Sutton is right. It seems that teams don't fear Celtic anymore. Too often this season, teams have come to Parkhead and have been confident of a result, lately because of the ban on the Green Brigade and the lack of atmosphere. That mindset needs to change, and it needs to do so quickly.

Celtic currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership, two points away from Rangers and three away from Hearts. Some supporters are still confident that the team can pull this back and win the title, but others are starting to see things in a more negative light.

Time is running out, and performances need to improve. With the Gers winning 6-3 on Sunday away from home, they have shown that they have what it takes to increase their goal difference. The Celts sadly haven't, with their only recent wins containing only one or two goals.

If this title race were to come down to goal difference, O'Neill's side would lose out. It's as simple as that. And if we want to change that, then we need to do it now before it's too late.
