There are multiple positions where Celtic need to strengthen this summer. One of them is on the wing. Nicolas Kuhn and Luis Palma have already left the club. Jota is set to remain out for at least the rest of the year after picking up a serious injury towards the end of last season. And despite his confusing selection in the game against Al Ahli, Marco Tilio is expected to complete a move to Rapid Vienna soon as well.

That leaves Brendan Rodgers scrambling for options on the flank. Are Yang Hyun-jun or James Forrest good enough, at this point, to be starting for Celtic? Also, has Adam Idah done enough to be a nailed-on starter up front?

So, do not be surprised if Celtic try to sign a winger or two before this summer transfer window slams shut. But then again, the club always try to 'win' every deal. That is something that may get in their way.

Earlier, it had emerged that Celtic had made a failed bid for Jakob Breum of Go Ahead of Eagles. But as it turns out, they have made not one but three approaches for the winger, with all of them failing so far.

Celtic submit £3 million offer for 'special' winger

As reported by The Herald, Celtic upped their original £1.5 million proposal to £1.75 million plus add-ons, then put £3 million on the table. But Go Ahead Eagles want £6.5million to part ways with Breum.

To be very honest, it is not hard to see why Go Ahead Eagles might be seeking that kind of a transfer fee for Breum. Last season, he managed to score 10 goals and provide 5 assists in 26 Eredivisie appearances. He has been compared to someone like Dusan Tadic and declared a 'special' talent. And at 21 years of age, he is only expected to get better moving forward.

If Celtic are serious about signing someone like Breum, they need to put in at least a £5 million offer on Go Ahead Eagles' table alongside a sell-on clause. And perhaps then, we might be heading somewhere. As things stand now, it is hard to imagine that the Hoops will be able to bring him to Parkhead.

We are in late July, and the highest transfer fee Celtic have paid to sign a player is the £1.5 million they shelled out for Benjamin Nygren. Let that sink in.
