There are quite a few positions where Celtic must be looking to strengthen in the remainder of this transfer window. One of them has to be defensive midfield. A few months earlier, the Hoops were being linked with one player after another capable of playing in that area of the pitch. But now, things have gone quite as the Scottish champions need to make more urgent additions in other spots.

That does not mean that they should overlook their issue at defensive midfield. Whenever there is a big Champions League game and mostly against the Rangers, we have seen them struggle to control the middle of the park due to the lack of one.

Of course, there are plenty of top quality defensive midfielders around. And Football FanCast have tipped Celtic to sign Salvatore Esposito, who is valued at a transfer fee around £5 million.

Esposito currently finds himself playing in Serie B with his Spezia side, narrowly missing promotion last season. As a result, he might be looking for an exit and Celtic might be the perfect place for him.

Of course, Esposito's numbers last season came in the second division of Italian football, but they are impressive nonetheless. He was very solid in terms of output.

Esposito scored 7 goals and provided 9 assists. But on top of that, he won 7.3 duels per game at a success rate of 68% on the ground and 51% in the air.

So, this is a player who can do it in both aspects and would definitely improve this Celtic team, if brought in. He has been linked with the Hoops earlier this summer as well. One can only hope that the Scottish champions do end up making a proper push to sign him in this window.
