Credit where it is due, Celtic have done a phenomenal job in recent weeks, clearing up space in the squad. A never-ending list of players have headed for the exit door, whether it be on a permanent basis or on loan. And now, another name has been added to that, as he hopes to learn from a club legend before returning to Parkhead a year later.
At Celtic, the pressure is on the manager to win pretty much every domestic game. So, they find it difficult to provide ample playing time to rising talents. As a result, it is often best to send these players out on loan to learn the ropes in senior football.
Sometimes it works out great. Callum McGregor is a fine example of that, going from League One loanee to Celtic captain. A loan spell at Aberdeen also helped Liam Scales immensely. But those stories are rare. Mostly, it does not work out.
The latest Celtic player to head out on loan is Kyle Ure. He has joined Scott Brown's Ayr United on a season-long deal.
Another Celtic transfer announcement made very quietly
Curiously, the announcement of Ure's loan deal was made while naming Ayr United's starting XI for their game against St Mirren. That is not something we see often and feels like a footnote at best. He was named on the bench for Brown's side.

Ure is 19 years of age and is a very highly-rated midfielder. But as expected, the chances of him getting opportunities for Celtic were limited at best. So, heading out on loan seems like the best step possible.
After that, the club have struggled to provide a pathway into the first-team though. Sooner or later, that will need to change. Otherwise, this feels like a pointless exercise, as youngsters leave on loan only to inevitably depart on a permanent basis a year or two later.
