Celtic have reportedly joined the race for Austrian goalkeeper Nikolas Polster, who they want to bring to the club to compete with Viljami Sinisalo. Celtic don't see the current No. 1 as a long-term option, and are working hard in the transfer market to identify a potential replacement.

Polster is one of the names on the list, with the 23-year-old also attracting interest from the likes of Brighton, Brentford and Wolves. He is regarded as one of Austria's brightest young players, but the side he currently plays for, Wolfsberger, could be relegated from the Austrian Bundesliga. He may opt for a move should that happen.

And it seems like a move to either Scotland or England is most likely. He has performed well and has picked up four personal accolades in his career, including being named in the Austrian Bundesliga Team of the Year on two occasions.

Comparing his stats (league only) with the current Celtic goalkeepers, it's clear to see why he is being considered, with him keeping several clean sheets despite playing in a relegation side.

Celtic would need to pay a fee of around €2 million for his services. That could increase should he play at the World Cup, with him still having a good chance of being called up for Ralf Rangnick's squad.

Celtic are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper

Polster isn't the only goalkeeper on Celtic's radar, but he does look like a promising option. He could do brilliant things in the Scottish Premiership, but it is yet to be seen if interest will turn into an offer.

Another target being heavily considered is Australia national team captain Maty Ryan. His contract with LaLiga side Levante is set to expire at the end of the season, and he seems to have no interest in extending it. He could be on his way out, and Celtic may appeal to him.

Motherwell goalkeeper Calum Ward is another player who the club are keen on, with him conceding the second fewest goals in the league this season under Jens Berthel Askou, who could be on his way to Parkhead as the next manager.

Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles is a young talent who is entering the last 12 months of his contract, and again, Celtic are desperate to sign him up.

There is a lot of promise going into the transfer window, so we can only hope that Celtic enter next season with a much-strengthened squad. We need more options all over the pitch, so all eyes are on the board and the next manager for how they choose to invest the finances.
