Celtic are reportedly interested in bringing Australia captain Maty Ryan to the club. According to football360au, the 34-year-old has been shortlisted by both the Hoops and Club Brugge, with the sides eager to make a move happen in the summer.

The Celts are in the market for a new goalkeeper after a potentially career-ending injury to Kasper Schmeichel. Viljami Sinisalo has been impressing since taking his starting spot, but it may not be enough to convince the club.

Ryan's contract with Levante is set to expire at the end of the season, and with seemingly no renewal on the horizon, he will likely depart the club. Fans still have hope that he will be offered a new deal, so we'll have to wait and see.

Has Sinisalo done enough to keep his spot?

Since coming into the role of starting goalkeeper for Celtic, fans have been impressed with how well Sinisalo has performed. A lot of people would be happy if we went into next season with him as our main option, but it seems that the club are looking to do something different.

Signing Ryan fits the transfer method that is regular for that position at Parkhead - sign experienced shot stoppers and hope for the best. It worked out with Joe Hart, it worked out with Schmeichel for his first season, and now, the club will be hoping to continue that with Ryan.

It would also be another bargain deal, meaning that Celtic could spend the big bucks elsewhere on the pitch. A striker is a priority, as well as a new centre-back, and the club may look to turn the loans of players like Marcelo Saracchi and the injured Julian Araujo into permanent deals.

He would bring a strong presence to the club as well. He has over 100 caps for his country and captains them, so he is a big figure in the dressing room. He is still getting regular gametime, having started 28 games in Spain this season, so we aren't opting for a benchwarmer either.

Sinisalo would likely be disappointed at the transfer though. He likely feels that he is doing well, and he is. Although there is debate as to whether he is the level of goalkeeper Celtic should aspire to, it would feel merciless to drop him after how well he has been doing.

It could unsettle him, or it could make him work even harder to keep the starting spot. There are two ways it could go, and if the Hoops opt to bring Ryan to the club, we can only hope it would be the latter.
