Martin O'Neill has confirmed that Julian Araujo will miss the rest of the season after picking up another injury.
The defender has been a regular starter at Celtic since joining on loan in January, but has missed recent games due to a hamstring injury. He was sent back to his parent club, Bournemouth, to get him sorted out, but he has sadly suffered a setback across the border.
Martin O'Neill is gutted by the news. He said: "It’s a real blow, I’ve only just found that out today. I don’t think we will see him for the rest of the season if it is the same injury he has redone."
Araujo picked up the original injury after the penalty win over Rangers in the Scottish Cup. He was set to miss weeks of action, but there was hope that he would return in time for the remaining post-split fixtures in May.
Sadly, that will not be the case, and we have likely seen the last of the Mexican in a Celtic shirt.
Good news on Colby Donovan
Thankfully, it isn't all bad news for the Hoops as Colby Donovan is on the road to recovery.
The defender had to pull out of international duty with Scotland's Under-21s last month, but played 67 minutes against Dundee last time out. Thankfully, the extent of his injury doesn't seem to be too bad, and O'Neill is hopeful of a quick return.
The manager said: "It hopefully won’t be too long [Donovan]. He’ll miss next week as well, but he’s doing well."
He also touched on Alistair Johnston, with pictures from training on Friday revealing that he is back with the squad at Lennoxtown.
O'Neill said: "Johnston trained with the team today [Friday], which was very encouraging. I don’t think he felt any ill effects, but he did join in before and then re-injured himself with the national team.
"We need him as soon as possible…if he comes through today and with a good week’s training next week, who knows."
Celtic are currently three points off the top spot with six games left to play. It's going to be an exciting time, and the Hoops will need all their best players available.
With the Green Brigade finally being allowed back into Parkhead after months of an unjustifiable ban, the atmosphere will be rocking, and hopefully, the team will be able to use that as a boost.
We'll find out on Saturday when they take on St Mirren at home. A good win going into the split would be ideal.
