It looks like Brendan Rodgers is eyeing a blockbuster Celtic summer signing pretty much out of nowhere.

This summer, Celtic have already pulled off one blockbuster return by bringing back Kieran Tierney. The left-back, who came through the club's academy, had spent the previous six years on the books at Arsenal. And while he was still involved in Mikel Arteta's plans, the Scotsman decided that the time was right to head back to Parkhead, with his contract expiring at the end of last summer.

Of course, the arrival of Tierney is a major boost for Brendan Rodgers' squad. He is a Premier League proven player arriving on a free transfer.

Rodgers might not be satisfied just yet though. It looks like the Northern Irishman is eyeing another player, who he helped breakthrough during his first stint as Celtic manager.

As reported by Sebastien Vidal, Crystal Palace have put Odsonne Edouard on the transfer market this summer. Celtic are monitoring the situation closely, with Rodgers considering a return for the 27-year-old striker.

Brendan Rodgers eyeing another blockbuster Celtic return

Edouard was exceptional during his four years at Celtic. Ultimately, he did end up leaving, as everybody expected him to. Premier League was his next destination.

Things have not gone as smoothly as Edouard would have expected when leaving Celtic though. In fact, most would argue that he has falled far below expectations.

Before joining Crystal Palace, Edouard had looked like an elite goalscorer, not just for Celtic but with the French youth international teams as well. But we have not seen any of that with the Eagles as he has struggled to find the back of the net in the English top flight.

Edouard has scored 21 goals for Crystal Palace in 103 appearances. In comparison, he had scored more than 21 times in three of his four seasons as a Celtic player. Also, he is the highest goalscorer in France U21 history.

Edouard spent the previous season on loan at Leicester City. But he made only a handful of appearances and did not score a single goal. He spent most of the campaign sitting in the reserves for a team that was relegated and finished with just 25 points. That just shows how bad things have gotten for the French striker.

Of course, any move to Celtic would depend on the kind of transfer fee that Crystal Palace would want. Also, Edouard would have to be keen on a return, at 27 years of age, for it to materialise.
