Celtic fans are waiting for the club to pick up some pace in the ongoing summer transfer window and make some much-needed additions to the squad. Brendan Rodgers' recent comments suggest that he is still hopeful that some more signings will be made before the Champions League qualifier play-off round tie against Kairat Almaty.
That seems pretty unlikely, considering how little there has been in the media regarding imminent Celtic moves. But then again, perhaps the manager knows something that we don't yet.
Despite the lack of activity in recent weeks, it has not stopped players from being linked with Celtic. Every summer, they seem to have plenty of Liverpool aces on their radar, but not much eventually materialises.
Already this summer, we have seen the club being linked with Tyler Morton and Stefan Bajcetic. And now, Ben Doak is being tipped to make a return to Celtic.
Another Liverpool player tipped to join Celtic this summer
Doak needs to get some regular playing time at this point in his career. It is clear that that is unlikely to come at Anfield anytime soon, so a loan exit is likely. As reported by the Daily Record, former Liverpool player Didi Hamman appears to believe that Celtic could be the right place for him, as he said:
"Ben Doak’s future depends on what Liverpool are planning for him because at his age, he needs to be playing.
"If he goes to Celtic, I think he's pretty sure to probably start because Nicolas Kuhn went to Como. I think Celtic is a fantastic club."
Well, Celtic have been linked with Doak on a number of occasion over the years, since he departed Parkhead to make the move to Anfield. He had made two senior appearances for the Hoops before his departure.
It is safe to say that Doak has grown his reputation during his time in England. But he has not been able to nail down a spot in the Liverpool first team, which probably should not come as a surprise, considering the talent that the Reds have. They are the defending Premier League champions at the end of the day.
Since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2022, Doak has made 10 appearances for the club. Although he is still just 19 years of age, he needs to be playing more often in order to continue his development.
Doak could be exactly what Celtic need at this point in time as well. Nicolas Kuhn has departed and has not been replaced so far. The Liverpool winger on loan would be a short-term solution but a quality one.
Earlier in the summer, Doak was heavily linked with a move to Everton. Those rumours have faded away with time and with the transfer window slowly but surely rolling down, the options might be decreasing as well. Could a return to Celtic on loan be on the cards? In our opinion, it seems unlikely. But the pressure is growing on the board to make a statement signing or two. So, you never know.
