Celtic need a striker right now. And most fans would have been pretty happy if the Hoops went for Odsonne Edouard. The Frenchman is proven in Scottish football, having scored more than 20 goals in three consecutive seasons during his time at Parkhead. Also, he is in his prime at 27 years of age and has Premier League experience under his belt, although he might have struggled down in England.

Of course, Celtic have been pretty open to the idea of returns in recent times. Brendan Rodgers, Jota, Kieran Tierney, Ross Doohan, the list goes on. Edouard would have been a great addition to that list.

But it looks like there was no genuine interest on the part of Celtic to get something done regarding Edouard this summer, even though they are in need of an out-and-out goalscorer following the departure of Kyogo. Adam Idah has struggled to fill that role and needs some competition.

Now, there is an update on the situation of Edouard, who looks set to leave Crystal Palace and head to France. And Celtic fans will be surprised by the transfer fee OGC Nice are looking set to sign him for.

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, Crystal Palace and OGC Nice have reached an agreement based on a £4 million transfer for the Frenchman. There is not yet a full agreement on the terms between Edouard and the Ligue 1 club.

To be very honest, that is pretty low for a player of Edouard's quality, even though he has failed to show it in England. One has to question why Celtic have not pushed for a move.

Is it that Edouard is not keen to return to Scottish football? That very well might be the case. But otherwise, there is no other cause to not try.
