Celtic have been linked with a variety of players this season. One position where they could do with some strengthening is left-back. Kieran Tierney is the clear first-choice there but due to the departure of Greg Taylor and Jeffrey Schlupp this summer, there is no cover. And considering the Scottish international's injury history, that is something that the Hoops definitely need over the course of the campaign.
For now, it looks like Liam Scales is being viewed as a potential cover option for Tierney, as Hayato Inamura does not seem to be in Brendan Rodgers' plans despite some solid pre-season displays. It would be great if a specialist could be brought in.
Tyrell Malacia is someone who has been linked with Celtic going back to January. The Dutch international is expected to leave Manchester United but so far, they have not been successful in finding him a new home. As we get closer to the close of the window, his transfer valuation is set to go down further.
There is an update on the Hoops' interest in the Manchester United left-back though. And at this point in time, it looks like the Scottish champions have not made any moves for him. As reported by Joost Blaauwhof, sources around Malacia are surprised by the reports of a transfer to Celtic as the player has not yet heard anything from Scotland.
Sources drop Tyrell Malacia to Celtic transfer news
So, this can be one of two things. First, Celtic have no real interest in Malacia and the rumours were wide of the mark. Second, the club are waiting for it to be later in the window before making their move.
Let's see how things turn out over the coming weeks. There is not much time left in this transfer window.
One can only hope that Celtic will go out and sign a left-back, whether it is Malacia or somebody else. They need another option.
