Celtic were knocked out from the Scottish Cup by the Rangers, meaning they will finish this season without a trophy.

At the start of the campaign, that would have been almost unthinkable. After all, the side were set to challenge for 10IAR after winning nine Premiership titles in a row. They also managed to complete a historic Quadruple Treble a few months ago.

It is clear that the club need to make changes. Winning cycles come to an end and that has happened for the Hoops as well – a season earlier than the fans would have liked.

There will be changes both on the field and off it. Dominic McKay is set to replace Peter Lawwell, who will be retiring after 17 years at the club. A Director of Football looks set to be brought in as well. A number of players look set to depart and will hopefully be replaced by new faces. But it is a new manager who might have the biggest impact on this team moving forward.

Celtic need to appoint a new manager

Celtic need to freshen things up and start from scratch next season. A new manager will bring new ideas with him and will hopefully help turn things around.

The club might need to wait till the end of the season before he arrives at Parkhead, but the appointment should be made as soon as possible so that the preparations can begin for next season.

The upcoming campaign will be one of the most difficult in recent memory. Not only do the Hoops face the need to make a large number of changes but they also find the Rangers at the top of Scottish football.

Thus, the magnitude of the task that faces the club moving forward is incredible. Nothing is impossible though and if they make the right decisions moving forward, there is no reason we cannot be back to challenging for the Premiership in the near future.
