The pundit has rubbished rumours about Celtic and one of their potential candidates to replace Neil Lennon as manager.

With the run of subpar performances of late from Celtic, rumours have been swirling of potential Neil Lennon replacements. One such name initially seen as “too good to be true” is that of former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

The initial rumours began to circulate when former Scotland international Charlie Adam suggested on PLZ Soccer that Celtic should go after the manager who lead Tottenham to the Champions League final the season before being replaced by Jose Mourinho.

Former Spurs player and pundit Michael Brown said that for such a hire to happen, Peter Lawwell would have to “give him the keys” to the club to make it happen, speaking to Football Insider.

The hire is still obviously a long shot, but Brown discussed how Pochettino’s hiring would have to match the ambition the club showed to bring Brendan Rodgers to Parkhead.

In speaking with Football Insider, Brown set the record straight:

"“I think it’d be a ridiculous move for Poch.“We love the ambition, they want a star manager, they want someone with that sort of kudos but I think, unfortunately, Poch has got different options.“He’s going to have different levels throughout Europe and, unfortunately, Celtic, wouldn’t be – I’d be amazed, listen, it doesn’t mean they can’t do it but you’re gonna have to show him a real ambition to make him do that.”"

He goes on saying that for the club to pull off such a move would be a true statement of intent by Celtic’s board of their ambitions both in Scotland and in Europe. And we know Pochettino is someone who would be devoted to youth development, providing a bigger future for the club.

But at this point of time, it is extremely unlikely that the Hoops can pull it off. With the Argentine being linked with some of the biggest teams in Europe, it is unlikely that he would want to come manage a team that has failed to even make it into the Champions League in the past three years.

Meanwhile, Celtic fans can only sit by and hope that the board make a decision soon on Lennon’s future, with the club sitting 13 points behind the Rangers domestically, and having already been knocked out of Europe and the League Cup. But to be fair to them, they have shown some signs of life recently and it will be interesting to see if they can indeed recover their best form.
