Unfortunately, the latest Celtic rumour is too good to be true and there is no point even hoping that the board somehow manage to pull it off.

It is one thing pulling a rabbit out of a hat. Celtic did that when they managed to land Brendan Rodgers as manager. But then there was the added incentive of him growing up as a Hoops supporter which surely played its part in the move. Landing Mauricio Pochettino would be like pulling an elephant out of the same hat though.

The Argentine was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur last year after a terrible start to their season despite having led the same side to the UEFA Champions League final just a few months ago. He still continues to be paid a hefty £8.5 million per year salary though, so let’s just say that he is not in desperate need of a job right now.

Thus, Charlie Adam’s recent claims about him being a feasible target for the Hoops just seem a tad far-fetched. As reporter by The Scottish Sun, the former Liverpool man told PLZ Soccer:

"“Dermot Desmond can pull anything out the rabbit.“He’s got enough money. Could Pochettino be the one? Could he throw Pochettino in the mix?“Because he’s not no job. Come in, rebuild your career again and see what happens.“What’s the difference with that and Brendan Rodgers coming to Celtic?”"

There are quite a few differences as a matter of fact. Has Rodgers ever led a team to a Champions League Final? Or did he transform Liverpool into consistent title contenders? His biggest achievement at that point of time was a second place finish with the Merseyside club.

And after the manner in which his reign at Anfield ended, would he have landed a top job immediately after that? Most probably not. On the other hand, Pochettino continues to be linked with Manchester United on a consistent basis.

Obviously a few fans have picked up on the comments on social media and are already discussing the possibility of it actually happening. Exactly how most rumours start.

If we indeed end up sacking Neil Lennon, we need to be realistic about our options. And while it would be delightful to have Pochettino at Parkhead, it is just not going to happen. So there is no point holding our breaths over it.
