With the side continuing to struggle under Neil Lennon, when will the Celtic board finally decide that enough is enough and show the manager the exit door?

The next Celtic fixture after St Johnstone at home on Sunday is at home to Lille on Thursday in a meaningless Europa League match. Followed by a home league match against Kilmarnock the following Sunday.

Even if the Hoops click into shape on Sunday against St Johnstone, even if they win by a few goals, Neil Lennon’s coat remains on a shoogly peg, just waiting for the next disastrous result. But it may well mean he remains as manager for the midweek match against Lille in the UEFA Europa League. It is hard not to feel that this is all pushing back the inevitable though.

Lose or draw and it’s hard to see how the club continues with him in charge. But then, we have said the same thing for weeks and here we still are.

With the game against Lille already a dead rubber, it could be a great opportunity for someone new to lead the team. Low, if any, expectations and against a probably relaxed and already qualified Lille. It could mean reduced pressure for a new boss and that may help the players. If Lennon remains in charge for that match the pressure to perform and deliver a result is very much on.

We’ve seen stories that a change won’t happen for a while yet. We’ve seen news that Dermot Desmond is planning a change as shared by Phil MacGiollaBhain. Weve got no certainty either way, nor any likely timeline.

It’s still a must win game against St Johnstone, as indeed most other matches are from hereon. But that’s always the case for Celtic. It gets tougher each game, but trying to back the team and seeking a win remains the priority. It’s going to get messy at some point regarding the managerial position. We’ll cross that bridge when we have to though.
