Phil MacGiollaBhain has hinted that Dermot Desmond is about to make some changes at Celtic after the club’s disastrous start to the season.

There is no hiding from the fact that there are some serious issues that Celtic need to fix if they are to bring their season back on track. They have managed just two wins from their last eleven games in all competitions.

As a result, the club find themselves out of the Europa League and the Scottish League Cup already, while they are also behind the Rangers in the Premiership table. Steven Gerrard’s side have a comfortable 11 point lead, with the two games in hand being Celtic’s only saving grace at this point of time.

Fans have repeatedly called for the club to show Neil Lennon the exit door over the last few weeks. But he still finds himself in the managerial hot seat despite the Hoops suffering one defeat after the other. This has led the supporters to grow frustrated with the situation and some of them even protested outside Parkhead after the club’s 2-0 defeat against Ross County.

Phil MacGiollaBhain is reporting though that Dermot Desmond plans to make appropriate changes although even he was unable to give a timeline about when that will actually happen:

"The best-placed source that I spoke with yesterday, a person very close to Mr Desmond’s thinking, assured me ‘there will be changes’ apropos the situation at Celtic."

Now, one can only guess that this change means that Lennon will be sacked and a new manager will be brought in. It is undeniable though that that is not the only issue at Parkhead at this point of time.

It does appear that a number of players want to leave and are just biding their time at the moment. This has resulted in a downturn in performances and the results have reflected that. Thus, an overhaul of the squad might be required earlier than one would like to admit.

Questions marks have also been raised about Peter Lawwell as well as the club’s recruitment team. Over the last few seasons, we have seen several players being brought in and failing to make any kind of impact.

Clearly, Desmond has a lot of things to take into consideration before making a decision. It will be interesting what kind of steps he actually takes and when he takes them.
