3) The timing of the loss adds up to current squad problems

The second half of the schedule was going to be crucial, everybody knew it. A perfect and fresh squad off the January window was needed to compete in three competitions at once.

More from The Celtic Bhoys

It didn’t happen like that though. Celtic elected to sign virtually one player in Marvin Compper with European experience int the last window. They didn’t do much as the former Leipzig man missed both legs.

Even though Musonda did get his first slice of a competitive nature in Europe, it still wasn’t enough to put in a noticeable performance against Zenit. Same can be said for Jack Hendry, Scott Bain, Kristoffer Ajer and even Eboue Kouassi.

It’s a window that took more of a future approach to it. Signings such as wonderkid Lewis Morgan proved that point. However, not much was made for the current state of the men in green, and it showed in this one.

Celtic bit the bullet and counted on a healthy squad to see them through. It doesn’t always happen like that, and the Bhoys will have hopefully learned their lesson this time.

Next: Prediction: Rodgers to use 3-5-1-1 at Zenit. Thoughts?
