Celtic loan out Joe Thomson
By Nick McAdam
Celtic started preparations for the January window before it even opened. Marvin Compper officially arrived to the Bhoys as of a couple days ago. Now, the Celts have made more room in the midfield.
The publication This Is Futbol was one of the first outlets to confirm that midfielder Joe Thomson was loaned out to the Queen of the South. According to Transfermarkt, the move was valued around 45,000 pounds.
Thomson’s contract with the Bhoys is set to expire in June, so his future with the Scottish champions remains to be seen. The 20-year-old has been loaned out a plethora of times throughout the duration of his career.
The product of the Celtic Academy made six appearances in the 2013-14 season and scored 2 goals in the process. However, Thomson was only able to make seven total appearances for the Hoops over the duration of the next four seasons.

This only led to Celtic deciding to continually loan Thomson out to sides such as Dumbarton and Livingston. Thomson’s most notable loan spell was with the Queens of the South last season as he amassed 4 goals and 2 assists.
The Scottish Championship side wasted no time to bring him back and immediately throw him into the starting lineup. The South lost their match to Falkirk this past weekend, and remains in 6th place on the table.
This Is Futbol continued to add some opinion as to why another loan spell can only benefit Thomson’s playing career.
"There is no winter break in the Championship and Queen of the South will continue to play right through the times were the Bhoys first team will be resting up in Dubai. Dumbarton, Livingstone and Inverness fixtures are coming up for Thomson and his team-mates at Palmerston, and the loan spell is perfect for getting Thomson back in rhythm."
Even though Thomson may have been a minuscule part of the midfield, his absence now creates more room for signings in the upcoming window. The Scot’s future with the Hoops is very uncertain, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the South considering to buy him over the summer.
Celtic have been endlessly rumored with young talent in the midfield even though real news of progress has yet to be announced. However, with recent rumored selling and loaning out of Thomson, the need for signings should be expected in this window.
