With the summer transfer window about to open, there are all kinds of rumours and speculation surrounding Celtic at this point in time. There is only one official piece of news that has come out of the club so far, announcing the expected arrival of Kieran Tierney as a free agent upon the expiry of his contract at Arsenal, where he spent the last six years.
Other than that, we have come across plenty of other transfer rumours. It is believed that they are close to getting deals done for Benjamin Nygren of Nordsjaelland and Isaac English of Greenock Morton. Ross Doohan is set to have agreed a pre-contract as well to take Scott Bain's place in the squad.
It remains to be seen which of these rumours is accurate and what's wide of the mark. But coming back to the left-back situation.
While Tierney spent the past six years at Arsenal, there was a constant at left-back for Celtic as well. It was Greg Taylor, signed from Kilmarnock in the summer of 2019. Now, it looks like he is set to leave the club but his next destination remains unclear.
Sky Sports man confirms transfer rumour regarding Celtic
As reported by Anthony Joseph, FC Copenhagen have entered the race to sign Taylor. PAOK have offered him a two-year deal, but he is still assessing all his options.
Taylor's contract with Celtic expires this summer. While no official announcement has been made yet, it does look like the left-back is on his way out of the club.
Earlier, there had been speculation that PAOK and Taylor had reached an agreement over a two-year deal plus a one-year option. But now, Joseph has confirmed that that is not the case and the situation is still open.
If this is indeed the end for Taylor at Celtic, we can only wish him the best of luck. It is understandable why he might not be keen to stay at the club and play backup to Tierney at just 27 years of age. It is natural for him to want to be the starter somewhere, and hopefully, he gets that opportunity, wherever it is that he ends up. Greece, Denmark, Croatia or somewhere else.
Of course, it would not be right to completely close the door on the possibility of Taylor staying at Celtic. But as things stand, that looks pretty unlikely if not impossible.
