Recently, we learned about the SFA's decision on the incident involving Rangers winger, Vaclav Cerny, at Celtic Park last month. The visitors managed to score a late winner on the day, and the Ibrox loanee appeared to splash water from his bottle towards the Hoops supporters during the goal celebrations. It is safe to say that it made a lot of headlines.
Celtic fans were not happy and wanted Cerny to be disciplined for his actions. There was speculation that the Rangers loanee could end up getting banned for as many as eight games.
But in reality, nothing really happened. Instead, Cerny was handed a formal warning regarding his behaviour and future conduct. Naturally, Celtic supporters were left unhappy and felt that a bad precedent had been set.
Now, one of Celtic's club heroes has been handed the same punishment. As reported by The Scottish Sun, Neil Lennon has been handed an official warning from the SFA after his post-match comments about referee Euan Anderson. The manager was unhappy with the whistler as Lewis McCann's goal was disallowed and then they were denied a penalty.
SFA hand Celtic hero same punishment as Vaclav Cerny
It is not rare for referees to complain about officiating after matches. So, it is very interesting to see that Lennon has been handed pretty much the same punishment for it as Cerny was for appearing to splash water towards Celtic supporters while celebrating Rangers' goal. One would imagine that there is some difference between the two incidents.
It is safe to say that Lennon is under some pressure to deliver results at the moment. He has taken up the Dunfermline Athletic job to mark his return to management.
But it is not an easy one to say the least. Lennon is hoping to guide his team to safety as they are in contention to be relegated from the Scottish second division.
Of course, Lennon's managerial career at Celtic did not come to a happy ending. But he is still a club hero and most fans would wish him the best, no matter what he decides to do moving forward.
