Celtic would be smart to keep an eye out on free agent signings in the upcoming summer transfer window. A lot of top-quality veteran players are often available at the end of the season, having seen their previous contracts run out. While they might no longer be in their prime, they still have much to offer. The Hoops will know that very well, having brought in the likes of Kasper Schmeichel and Aaron Mooy in similar deals in the past to a lot of success.
This summer, there are a lot of areas where Celtic will need to strengthen. One of them has to be centre-back. The department could look very different come next season.
There are question marks over the future of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Maik Nawrocki. The first might be looking for a change in scenery while the latter two have not gotten much playing time. On the other hand, Auston Trusty has not been particularly impressive since his big-money arrival in the summer from Sheffield United.
So, Celtic might need to sign a centre-back or few in the summer. What about one from Everton, whose current deal is set to run out?
Celtic tipped to sign England international as free agent
The Scotsman recently put out a list of ten best Premier League players who are available to Celtic and the Rangers as free agents in the summer. One of the names they put forward is that of Michael Keane.
Keane had been a stalwart at the back for Everton for quite a few years but he suddenly finds himself out of the first-team picture. Also, his contract is set to run out in the summer.
As a result, it looks like Keane is likely to become a free agent in the summer. It might be a great opportunity for Celtic to sign the centre-back, who has 12 appearances for England.
