Glasgow gets pretty intense ahead of any derby day, so how about when there are two on consecutive Sundays? This weekend, the Old Firm will clash at Ibrox in the League Cup quarter-finals, with a place at Hampden on the line. Exactly a week later, the pair will meet again, this time in he Premiership and at Parkhead.
They says that form goes out the window in a derby, but who does have the head-to-head edge ahead of these two encounters, and does this give us any indication as to how the next two clashes will go?

Across the last decade, since Rangers' return to the top division, Celtic have very much had the upper hand in Glasgow derbies, with the exception of the lockdown period when Steven Gerrard led the Gers to the title. Following Ange Postecoglou's first derby in charge, Celtic lost just two of 17 derbies, one of which was a dead-rubber, culminating in the 2024 League Cup Final.
Widely considered to be among the best ever domestic cup finals in Scottish football history, the pair played out an exhilarating 3-3 draw, in which Nicolas Kühn thought he had won it right at the death, only for Danilo to equalise straight away. In the subsequent shootout, Rıdvan Yılmaz was the only man to miss, his attempt saved by Kasper Schmeichel, allowing Daizen Maeda to lash home the winner kick, claiming one of the most famous victories of Celtic's modern history.
Since then, despite securing the Premiership title both times, Celts have enjoyed very little derby jubilation. Across 2025 and 2026, so far, the Hoops have won only two of nine Old Firms in regulation play, as well as one on penalties. However, one could argue they have won the derbies that have truly counted.
Martin O'Neill's side were victorious after extra time in last season's League Cup semi-finals, thanks to Callum McGregor's strike and then Callum Osmand sliding in at the back post. March's infamous Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox also went the way of the Celts. It was a cagy goalless draw that contained very little quality, with the Celts progressing after a shootout. Tomáš Čvančara converted the winning kick, sparking wild scenes of celebration, as well as more unsavoury events on the pitch.
Celtic have therefore won the last six cup ties between the pair, the last three of which have gone to extra time or penalties, which could be foreshadowing what is come on Sunday. Their last encounter in May saw Daizen Maeda scored a magnificent brace, including a bicycle kick no Celtic fan will forget. This formed part of the seven successive victories O'Neill's side put together as they reeled in Hearts and took the title on the final day.
So, despite the fact Rangers have won three of the last seven Premiership derbies, Celtic fans are confident of two victories, especially considering how underwhelming Derek McInnes' team are right now.
