Celtic have been flawless domestically so far this season, but games do not get much bigger than this; a do or die cup tie against your fierce rivals. On Wednesday night, Martin O'Neill's team battled to a 1-0 victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park, with with Mika Baur the only scorer in Perth.
This made it six wins out of six for the Celts in the Premiership so far, which leaves them five points clear at the top already. Meantime, the Hoops commenced their League Cup campaign by demolishing Dundee United 4-0 at Tannadice last month; Sebastian Tounekti with the pick of the goals that evening. So now, can they book another trip to Hampden?
Celtic have won the League Cup in eight of the last 12 seasons, also featuring in last year's final, beaten 3-1 by St Mirren during Wilfried Nancy's ill-fated tenure. They have only failed to reach, at least, the semis on three occasions since 2010, and are favourites for this clash, albeit it won't be easy.
As for Rangers, how are things going across the city? Well, in short, not very well. If Celts thought their team's European defeat to LASK was embarrassing, their rivals said hold my Tennent's. The Gers are no longer in any European competition at all, having been dumped out of Europa League qualifying by Jagiellonia Białystok, before losing in the Conference League play-off round to Jablonec on penalties.
Domestically, Derek McInnes' side also failed to win either of their first two matches this season, albeit come into this one following five victories in a row. In mid-week, they required a stoppage time dink from Bojan Miovski to snatch victory over St Mirren right at the death.
Overall, across these five wins, Rangers have scored ten goals and conceded only two, most notably demolishing holders St Mirren 5-1 in this competition. Nevertheless, this is far from a vintage Rangers team, one that lacks genuine quality. Thus, despite being away from home, Celtic have to kick off as favourites at Ibrox, and should be too strong for their historic rivals.

Derek McInnes is without his two star strikers. Youssef Chermiti ruptured his ACL against Hibernian, mere hours after the club rejected an enormous £22 million bid for him from Galatasaray, while Lawrence Shankland is set to be sidelined for four months, after sustaining a serious hamstring tear.
In their absence, new signing Kevin Kelsy led the line on Wednesday, while Bojan Miovski came off the bench to bag the late winner. Attacking midfield Kim Min-su could return, having impressed so far, while a centre-back pairing of Olwethu Makhanya alongside Emmanuel Fernandez is far from water tight. Lastly, after his move to Beşiktaş fell through, star man Nicolas Raskin is still a Rangers player.

Martin O'Neill remains without Alistair Johnston, but both Kieran Tierney and Kasper Høgh returned against St Johnstone on Wednesday, which is a major boost. There is however no Yang Hyun-jun. He scored in May's famous derby win, but won't be repeating that feat here, as he's in Japan representing Korea Republic at the Asian Games. A gold medal would make Yang exempt from military service.
It was Sebastian Tounekti and Haissem Hassan who started out-wide at McDiarmid Park, but Camilo Durán will return here, with Benjamin Nygren also back in midfield. Lastly, O'Neill has a big decision to make in goal. Sam Johnstone made his debut against St Johnstone, so is he now the number one, or will Viljami Sinisalo be donning the gloves?
