Even when the pair meet six times a season, every Glasgow derby seems to be bigger than the last. The way for any player to become a legend at either Celtic or Rangers is to score a crucial goal in a crucial derby, with men writing their names into club folklore by doing just that.

So, we outline the top ten all-time scorers in Old Firm history, with the list featuring five Celtic and five Rangers players.

10) Bobby Lennox - 15 goals

Bobby Lennox is widely considered one of Celtic's greatest-ever players, winning 28 major honours during his 20 year career at the club, with a brief stint at the Houston Hurricane in between. He was one of the stars of Jock Stein's team that won the European Cup against Inter Milan in Lisbon in 1967, the starting left winger throughout that run.

Lennox also loved a goal against Rangers, bagging 15 derby goals, earning his place on this list.

9) Henrik Larsson - 15 goals

Affectionally known as the King of Kings, Henrik Larsson is the only non-Scotsman to make it onto this list. During seven seasons in Glasgow, the Swedish international scored 241 goals in 315 appearances for Celtic, and fans will never see a better player at Parkhead ever again.

Of these goals, 15 came in 30 clashes with Rangers, including two during a famous 6-2 win in 2000. In the modern era, Larsson's tally and quality may never be surpassed.

8) Jimmy Duncanson - 16 goals

Going back in time to a post-war Britain, Jimmy Duncanson spent the majority of his career at Rangers, before shorter stints with St Mirren and Stranraer. The striker won 23 major honours with the Gers, scoring 16 times against Celtic, including bagging the first Glasgow derby hat-trick of the 20th century in 1947.

7) Alex Venters - 16 goals

Another old Rangers play, Alex Venters called Ibrox home for 13 years, before departing for Third Lanark following the outbreak of WWII. He scored 102 goals in just over 200 appearances for the Gers, of which 16 came in derbies, inducted in the Rangers Hall of Fame long after his passing at the age of just 45 from a heart attack.

6) John McPherson - 17 goals

Sticking with something of a theme, John McPherson represented Rangers between 1890 and 1902, winning three Scottish Cups, notably scoring in the 1894 final victory over Celtic at Hampden. This was one of 17 goals McPherson bagged in derbies, meaning only five me remain ahead of him.

5) Jimmy Quinn - 18 goals

Fifth spot is where one finds the next Celtic player on this list. Jimmy Quinn joined the Hoops in 1901, spending his entire senior career at Parkhead, one that was curtailed by the outbreak of World War I. Described by Willie Maley as the "greatest centre-forward we have ever possessed", Quinn was the club's top-scorer during a period in which they won six successive league titles, a world record at he time, netting 18 times against Rangers, including a hat-trick in the 1904 Scottish Cup Final as his team came from 2-0 down to prevail. Overall, Quinn is the club's fourth-highest scorer in history.

4) Sandy McMahon - 22 goals

Four goals ahead is another Celtic legend, namely Sandy McMahon, who represented the club between 1890 and 1903. McMahon's tally of 200 goals means only five men have ever bagged more for the club, of which 22 came in derbies. As with all these players from over 100 years ago, it is impossible to appreciate just how good they were, but McMahon's numbers speak for themselves.

3) Jimmy McGrory - 22 goals

As we enter the top three, one finds Jimmy McGrory, who played 445 times for the Hoops between 1922 and 1937. In these matches, he scored a whopping 468 goals, which makes him Celtic's all-time leading scorer, a record he will surely have for the rest of time. This includes 39 hat-tricks and 11 occasions in which he scored four in a match. 22 of these goals came across just 35 meetings with Rangers, and Celtic Park may never see a goal scorer like McGrory again.

2) R.C. Hamilton - 24 goals

We're going back to the 19th century to find the man second on this list, namely Robert Cumming Hamilton. He played for Rangers between 1897 and 1906, scoring 312 goals in 367 appearances for the Light Blues, of which 24 goals occurred in Old Firm derbies, which is impressive, albeit not quite the record.

1) Ally McCoist - 27 goals

A fact he will surely be delighted about, Ally McCoist remains the Old Firm derby's all-time leading scorer with 27. He netted 237 times for Rangers in total across 17 seasons representing his boyhood club, following a brief stint south of the border at Sunderland. McCoist, most notably, scored a hat-trick in the 1984 League Cup Final, and certainly inflicted plenty of pain on Celtic through the years.
