Kasper Hogh is a Celtic superstar in the making, and because of more than just his goals. The Dane was a big investment for the Hoops, costing around £11million, but it's one the Bhoys have got right, and not just because of his newfound success in front of goal.
Hogh struggled in his first game for the club on Monday, failing to find the net and missing a couple of sitters along the way. But it all changed on Sunday when Celtic made easy work of Kilmarnock to make it back-to-back wins to start the season.
Hogh finds his groove
Strikers who miss sitters in a game can let things spiral quickly, but that wasn't the case for Hogh, who put it all behind him within two minutes, heading home the opener from a yard out.
And by the time half-time had come around, he curled a first-time shot into the bottom corner from around the penalty spot and then scored with a diving header from close range, getting on the end of Camilo Duran's cross. Three became four just after half-time, when he was handed the ball by the Kilmarnock goalkeeper Stryjek and placed high into the net.
The striker produced the same comical celebration for all four goals. It's not clear what the context is, and there surely is some, but it was full of personality, which is why Hogh is perfect for Celtic.
Whether it's his celebrations or his jovial post-match interview on Monday that saw him admit he needs 'shooting practice', the striker is perfect for Glasgow. Most strikers take themselves a little seriously, try to look professionally disappointed, but Hogh laughed and made fun of himself in that interview.
That's the kind of craic a player needs to be a hit in Scotland, both on and off the pitch. You need to be a player who can roll with the punches, take it on the chin and be able to make light of moments.
It's the same sort of attitude we see from Erling Haaland. That's not to compare the two as players, but Haaland also has that competitiveness on the pitch while being able to laugh about himself off it when things don't go well.
Celtic will play much better and more organised players than Kilmarnock, but Hogh looked like a proper striker, and that ability, paired with his ideal attitude, is going to make him an undoubted hit among Bhoys fans. The club shop had better order a few more number nines.
