Julian Araujo and his performances at Celtic this season may win him a call-up to the Mexico national team for the next set of international games. His form for the Hoops has caught the eye of manager Javier Aguirre.
The full-back has been in class form for the Celts since joining on loan from Premier League side Bournemouth, and his antics in matches like the Glasgow derby have made fans fall in love with him. He has been a standout performer since arriving in Glasgow.
Araujo will be happy that he has managed to hit the ground running because not only does he likely have the option for a permanent move for the summer now, should he be interested, but he may be about to work his way back into the national team.
The defender has 16 caps for his country so far in his career, but started to be left out of the squad earlier in the season after falling out of favour at his parent club. He last played for Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which the team ended up winning.
Now, Aguirre has revealed he has been in contact with Araujo and is considering a call-up. Speaking to Glasgow Times, he said:
"It’s true that I also spoke with Julian Araujo, who is currently doing well in Scotland. Right back is a position where I have many options. We have Rodrigo Huescas at FC Copenhagen too, and I want to see our players in Europe in the future."
Mexico ready for the call-up, so Celtic shouldn't wait to strike
Mexico are currently preparing to face Portugal and Belgium in friendly games, and these could be the perfect opportunities for Araujo to prove why he deserves a spot in that national team. He has shown he can do it domestically, so there's no reason why he can't show he can do it on the international stage.
With another player added to the list of squad members who will represent their country, the interest in Araujo is sure to be high. Clubs will be keeping an eye on the full-back, especially with his performances for the Celts, and the Hoops shouldn't wait to strike a potential deal.
There is no doubt that fans would love to see him come to Glasgow on a permanent basis, and the defender hasn't ruled out a move for next season. Currently, the deal is exclusively a loan, but it has become clear that he would be the perfect fit as our first summer signing.
