With a treble within reach, it is safe to assume that most Celtic fans are very happy to have Brendan Rodgers as the manager of the club right now. The Northern Irishman returned for a second spell at Parkhead in the summer of 2023 and has been very successful in this stint as well. And on more than one occasion, he has talked about wanting to at least see out his three-year contract with the Hoops, which runs until the end of the 25/26 campaign.
Nothing is for certain in football though. Celtic fans will know that well, having seen Rodgers leave the club in the middle of the 18/19 season to join Leicester City.
Recently, there have been some whispers about Rodgers being a potential candidate to replace Ange Postecoglou, who looks set to be sacked soon, at Tottenham Hotspur. Could that move actually happen? And if it did, who would Celtic replace him with?
Alan Brazil has suggested Jose Mourinho as an option. While speaking on talkSPORT (via 67 Hail Hail) about Rodgers and whether he will stay, he said:
"I don’t know. They should beat Aberdeen, but you never know in football. Cup finals. Crikey. But should beat Aberdeen. They win the Treble.
“Does he think, ‘get out when the time is right’. I think if a cracking job comes up. Would you imagine if Tottenham come in? Would that be too much for Brendan to say, ‘no’. He has done it before. Would he do that?
“What if Brendan left and Jose went in at Celtic. Of course, in Seville (UEFA Cup final), he has seen 120,00 Celtic fans there, he knows how big the club is. What a game that was, by the way."
Jose Mourinho tipped for blockbuster Celtic move out of nowhere
Mourinho's name has been linked with a move to Scotland quite a bit in recent times. Mostly, he has been suggested as a potential manager for the Rangers, once the 49ers takeover goes through, to take on the Celtic challenge. But what if he ends up in the opposite dugout?
There is no question that Mourinho is a winner. He has shown that throughout the course of his career. And even though his last few jobs have not been as high-profile, he has continued to produce results.
One would imagine that Rodgers will remain Celtic manager beyond this season. He has made that clear himself. But if for some reason, the situation changes, Mourinho would be a terrific replacement.
