It has been widely reported that Haissem Hassan is set to be Celtic's next signing in a deal worth up to £9 million. Hassan is a Real Oviedo player who recently starred at the World Cup with Egypt.
Why is Haissem Hassan being valued at £9 million by Real Oviedo?
Hassan is a 25-year-old right winger whose contract expires next summer. Oviedo needs to cash in on him in this window to avoid him leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Last season in La Liga, Hassan did not score but made three assists in 37 games. This was for a side that finished bottom of the division and was relegated. Therefore, his output should be much greater at Celtic, with a side that is expected to win the Scottish Premiership.
As well as Celtic, Hassan has also been linked with his former club Villarreal and even Liverpool. Fans may remember him for his performances at the World Cup, which included Hassan getting an assist in a narrow defeat to Argentina.
What Haissem Hassan would bring to Celtic?
Whilst Hassan is predominantly a right-winger, he can also play on the left and as an attacking midfielder. He would be Celtic's first-choice right-winger ahead of James Forrest, who is now 35. The Hoops also have Hyun-jun Yang to compete with Hassan. He is a right-footed left-winger, which gives him the ability to cut in and score goals.
Hassan could also fill in for Benjamin Nyrgen in the attacking midfield role. He could also play on the left should anything happen to Jota or Sebastian Tounekti. Michel-Ange Balikwisha is another left-winger at Martin O'Neill's disposal, but he appears to be frozen out.

Hassan is in the region of high price tags that Celtic deals with for incomings and outgoings. He will be a like-for-like replacement for Daizen Maeda, who joined Ipswich Town this summer.

Hassan appears to be less of a goal-scoring threat than Maeda according to these statistics. However, it is harder to score in La Liga than in the Scottish Premiership. Therefore, Hassan will be expected to improve his xG whilst playing for Celtic.
Interestingly, Hassan's dribbling and xA stats are still better than Maeda's for last season. This shows how good Hassan is in those areas despite playing for a poor Real Oviedo side. Of course, both players' stats are dwarfed by Vinicius Junior, who is arguably the best left-winger in the world right now.
The risks of a £9 million deal
It may not be a price tag that sounds like a lot, given that Premier League teams are signing players for over £100 million right now. However, £9 million is a significant amount for Celtic, who get far less broadcast revenue than teams from English football's top flight. Celtic are relying on making sure that they qualify for the Champions League to boost their revenue.
Hassan could get injured or struggle to adapt to the physicality and different conditions of Scottish football. However, having performed in La Liga, he should adapt well to the Scottish Premiership. He comes into the new season on a high after his performances at the World Cup. Therefore, he should hit the ground running for the Hoops.
Is Haissem Hassan worth £9 million?
Given his experience and age, he would be worth around £9 million. This could be excellent business for the Hoops as Hassan could star for them for years to come. Hassan is also young enough for Celtic to make a profit on him if they choose to sell in the future.
