Celtic target Haissem Hassan has been left out of Real Oviedo's squad as he prepares to complete a move to Parkhead. Hassan has been a target of Celtic's for much of the summer, with the Bhoys needing more competition out wide.
It seemed to be between Hassan and Ghedjemis, but the Bhoys look to have made up their minds, with talks with Oviedo now at an advanced stage. Celtic are pursuing a £6million deal with a further £3million in add-ons included, but the two clubs are still working on the final structure.
The good news is that reports in Spain suggest Oviedo are generally happy with the deal, which will net them 60% of the fee, allowing them to register their new signings and remain salary cap compliant, while Villarreal will get the other 40% due to retaining a sell-on clause in the deal.
But the finer deals still need to be ironed out at this stage.
Hassan will not play this weekend
The fresh update comes from Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, who says Hassan will not be in Oviedo's squad for their pre-season friendly amid an expected imminent deal.
He posted on X: "UPDATE: Celtic target Haissem Hassan has been left out of Real Oviedo’s squad for their pre-season match against Le Havre tomorrow.
"The Egypt international, 24, is subject of a £9m bid from Celtic and is awaiting the green light for the clubs to agree a deal, so he can travel for a medical. The two clubs are not far from an agreement but are still ironing out a few details."
The update will see excitement among Celtic fans ramped up, and Hassan's arrival will tick a big box for Martin O'Neill, who will feel as though there is still a lot of work to be done within his squad.
Celtic still need to sign two new midfielders, a left-back and a goalkeeper, and there is every chance they will still have to replace Alistair Johnston towards the end of the month if Everton come back in.
Exits still need to be organised for Arne Engels and Reo Hatate, who both want new challenges, and it's no secret Celtic have struggled to do deal this summer, so filling all of the holes mentioned will be no easy task, especially with just over three weeks to go in the transfer window.
Meanwhile, Celtic have their Champions League qualifying playoffs on August 18 and 25, and they will want more business done by then.
