Celtic could wind up missing out on one of their winger targets in Fares Ghedjemis. The Bhoys are in need of wingers, with Daizen Maeda having left the club this summer, and they may need more than one.

Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign winger Haissem Hassan, with a fee of around £6million plus £3million in add-ons expected to be agreed. That deal is progressing nicely, but it looks like Ghedjemis could be too expensive.

Ghedjemis could now go elsewhere

Ghedjemis is reportedly priced at around £12-£13million this summer, which Celtic may not be willing to pay on top of their Hassan deal. But French club AS Monaco are said to be ramping up their efforts, with L'Equipe reporting that they will return with a new bid after seeing their initial approach rejected.

Monaco are said to have offered €7million plus €2million in add-ons, which was rejected, while Celtic and Rangers are said to have seen €10million approaches rejected. Frosinone are fighting to keep the winger, but they also recognise they are likely to lose him after he scored 15 goals from out wide last season.

Celtic and Rangers could well miss out, though but it may not be all bad for the Hoops. Hassan looks to have become the main target, and he is close to being signed, while Jota has returned to training in a fresh boost that could ultimately save the club signing a second winger, keeping in mind Benjamin Nygren can certainly do a job there if needed, as can new striker Camilo Duran.

The Bhoys have bigger needs elsewhere, with a new left-back, at least two midfielders and a new starting goalkeeper needed as a minimum, and that assumes they can keep hold of Alistair Johnston amid strong interest from Everton this summer.
