Celtic defender Maik Nawrocki has his future in doubt as he looks set to make the move to the Bundesliga permanently.
Nawrocki is currently on loan to Hannover and is doing well for the club, and according to Bild, several German clubs have the defender 'on their radar' after his performances throughout the campaign.
He sadly picked up an injury in his side's 2-0 win at the weekend, which is a massive blow to them as they fight for promotion to the top-flight in Germany. Although he was set to return to Glasgow at the end of the season, he may opt to stay in the country.
Hannover have an option to buy in Nawrocki's loan deal that would see them pay around £2 million for his services. They could trigger this, but Nawrocki would likely not be interested if they fail to secure promotion.
Whether he goes or not, a fee of £2 million seems like what Celtic will be getting for the defender. This marks a significant loss for the club, with them having paid £4.3 million for his transfer from Legia Warsaw in 2023.
Nawrocki impressing but his Celtic career seems to be over
Nawrocki is impressing over in Germany, but it seems as though we have seen the last of him in a Celtic shirt. When he was here, the likes of Player of the Season contender Liam Scales, Stephen Welsh and Nat Phillips were all preferred over him, so it seems unlikely that he would get another go.
The next manager could opt to play him though, but by that point, he could already have one foot out the door. The interest in him seems very real, but we'll need to wait and see what happens.
The defender is just one player out on loan who has been performing well, with Luis Palma also impressing at Lech Poznan. LaLiga side Sevilla are interested in the winger; however, he is contracted to Celtic until 2028 and wants a second chance at Parkhead.
Meanwhile, other players like Shin Yamada are having a rough time. He now plays his football for Prussia Munster, who are fighting relegation, and he has been frozen out of that side.
Celtic's squad will be very different next season, and it will be interesting to see if any loanees will win back their place in the matchday squad. It seems likely for a few players, but for some, it may be best just to move on for good.
