With Rangers having such a bad start to the Scottish Premiership season, you would think that Celtic would be the runaway leaders. However, Heart of Midlothian is currently leading the division.

Celtic have also seen Brendan Rodgers resign as manager, with Martin O'Neill taking charge of the side on an interim basis. Despite this tumultuous start to the campaign, the Hoops are only seven points behind Celtic and have a game in hand.

If Celtic are to sign a few key players, then they could still challenge for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

What might Celtic's dream lineup look like in 2026?

Goalkeeper: Kasper Schmeichel

Schmeichel may now be 39, but he has still kept seven clean sheets in 11 Scottish Premiership games this season. Celtic will need to think about whether to keep him on or sign a replacement as his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Right-back: Alistair Johnston

Alistair Johnston played in Celtic's opening two Scottish Premiership games, which they won. However, he has since been out with a muscle problem. The Hoops need him back desperately. He could be a key player if Wilfried Nancy is to be the next Celtic manager. The Canadian international played under Nancy at CF Montréal in MLS.

Center-backs: Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales

Cameron Carter-Vickers is another player Celtic are missing due to injury. They need the USMNT international to return, where he can play alongside the ever-reliable Liam Scales.

Left-Back: Kieran Tierney

Kieran Tierney will be rearing to go for Celtic after his heroics when helping Scotland qualify for the World Cup. His Scottish teammate Andy Robertson could join Celtic next summer, which could force Tierney into a more central position.

Defensive-midfield: Callum McGregor

The Celtic captain, Callum McGregor, needs to continue to anchor the Hoops' defence. He has missed just one Scottish Premiership game this season. McGregor also scored Celtic's goal against Hearts, but they still fell to a 3-1 defeat.

Central-midfield: Reo Hatate

The talented Japanese international is a real creative spark in their midfield. He has scored once and made an assist in nine Scottish Premiership games so far.

Attacking-midfield: Diego Rossi

Diego Rossi could be a new signing for Celtic if Nancy is to be their next manager. Rossi plays for Nancy's current club, the Columbus Crew, where they have won MLS Cup and Leagues Cup. The Uruguayan international has previously played soccer in Europe with Fenerbahce, and he is still only 27.

Right-wing: Raheem Sterling

An ambitious signing, as Raheem Sterling is on £325,000 a week at Chelsea. However, he has been frozen out of their squad. Sterling to Celtic was mentioned as a possibility last summer, and if the player wants game time, then heading to Scotland could be his answer. Still feels unlikely though, as the player also appears reluctant to leave London after spending last season on loan at Arsenal.

Center-forward: Evan Ferguson

Evan Ferguson was once a very highly rated striker at Brighton & Hove Albion. However, he soon fell out of favor at the club. His loan spell at West Ham United was a disaster, and his current one at AS Roma is becoming one. He could be an option for Celtic if his deal with the Serie A side is scrapped.

Left-wing: Benjamin Nygren

If Celtic were to sign Sterling, then Benjamin Nygren would have to switch to the left flank. He is a versatile player, so he should be able to adapt. Nygren has been a key player for Celtic this season. He has scored five goals with two assists in 11 Scottish Premiership matches.
