Celtic Women were defeated yet again by Rangers on Monday in the Scottish Women's Premier League, as the time since the Hoops last beat the Gers extends to over two years.

Katie Wilkinson got the visitors off to a flying start as she jumped over the Celtic defender and nodded it past Adelaide Gay. She gave herself a second before half-time, scoring from a direct free-kick while the goalkeeper was left watching.

There were no goals to come for Grant Scott's side as, with 90 minutes on the clock, Wilkinson completed her hat-trick. Gay dove the right way, but there was too much power on the shot.

An awful game all round

Overall, it was a terrible performance in Hamilton. Celtic offered nothing of real quality, and it really highlighted why they are quickly falling out of the title race. There were very few players who got pass marks today, and a much better performance will be needed next time out if we even want to compete for third place.

One player of note who didn't perform well was Evie Rabjohn. Her performance showed why Momo Nakao still deserves that starting spot. The Japanese midfielder has been incredible for most of the season, and she made a real difference when she came on. Sadly, it wasn't enough.

Gay should've done better between the sticks. Dropping our starting goalkeeper, Lisa Rodgers, was a questionable decision right from the off, and she should be back in the lineup next time out. She has made some errors recently, but you can't help but feel that she would've done better when presented with some of Rangers' chances.

Maria McAneny was nowhere to be seen in the squad. Hopefully, she isn't injured, but without fan media to ask the important questions, as the club has still locked them out, we are unlikely to know. Hopefully, someone asks Scott about her.

Celtic are all but out of the title race

At this point, Celtic are pretty much out of the title race. Sitting in fourth place, four points behind third, we've fallen away from the competition.

It already looked dire with the 4-1 humbling to Hearts, but now, things have gotten even worse. There is going to be serious work that needs to be done in the summer if we want to become a real competitor again. Too often this season have things gone sideways. The managerial change didn't help, but hopefully, Scott will be able to bring in players that fit his system at the end of the season.

There are a lot of players with contracts that are set to expire, and some of them should leave. It's going to be an interesting time after the league is decided, and hopefully, Scott will be ruthless in his assessment of the squad.
