Celtic are said to have quickly blocked an approach for one of their defenders from a Premiership rival. The Bhoys are up and running in their league campaign having beaten Dundee narrowly, with Benjamin Nygren heading home the winner.
Dundee were a well-organised outfit, as expected, and they almost snatched a draw with an Ashley Hay header, but Celtic did have the better of the action overall.
One area Dundee want to improve is the defence, and they are said to have turned to Celtic in a bid to do it.
Dundee approach Celtic over defender
According to The Courier, Dundee have approached Celtic over the loan signing of centre-back Dane Murray, but they have seen their approach rejected.
Celtic do not plan to add to the middle of their defence this summer, and they do not want to force themselves into that situation by allowing Murray to leave. Murray will provide centre-back depth, with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales the other options. Scales missed the opener through suspension, and he will also miss the next before returning.
It's a sensible approach from Celtic. While it would be nice for Murray to play more regularly, the Bhoys already have to find a new left-back to add depth behind Kieran Tierney, while they may find themselves having to replace Alistar Johnston on the right should he go on to join Everton.
The Bhoys also need to complete a number of other signings, with at least a couple of midfielders needed, along with a goalkeeper and a winger or two.
Celtic have struggled to do deals all summer, so it would be a silly move to force themselves into needing to find another centre-back. Murray will play a role in what will likely be another long season, especially with European football to navigate
