Celtic are now being linked with Leo Cavallius as they look to improve their goalkeeper options this summer. Martin O'Neill undoubtedly wants to sign a goalkeeper after seeing Kasper Schmeichel leave the club via retirement in the summer.
Viljami Sinisalo has been filling in so far this summer, as he did at times last season, and he has done a good job, but O'Neill may still want a more experienced starter.
Celtic now consider Cavallis
According to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph, Celtic are considering goalkeepers to compete with Sinisalo rather than to replace him, which likely rules out a big investment at the position.
"Celtic are in the market for a goalkeeper to support and provide competition for No1 Viljami Sinisalo. They held talks with Blackburn Rovers regarding Balazs Toth last week, but no bid has been made so far.
"The Hungary international is being monitored by a number of clubs, but has been told Udinese have no interest in him. Celtic are considering a number of options for the GK position, including IF Brommapojkarna’s Leo Cavallius - first called by @Anelavidic."
Cavallius is only 21 years of age, but he is a first-team regular, serving as Brommapojkama's starting keeper in the top flight of Swedish football.
He would likely be a cheap signing, somewhere between £1million and £2million, and would very likely come in as a number two behind Sinisalo.
Toth was Blackburn's starting keeper last season and remains their number one this season, so if he was to be signed, it would be unclear who would start between him and Sinisalo. Celtic are also likely looking at a more expensive signing, given Rovers would be losing their number one. There is a reported asking price of £4million.
In the meantime, Sinisalo remains the number one and has done a good job so far this season. That perhaps explains why O'Neill could be pivoting to a more supportive option over signing a starter, which seemed to be the focus earlier in the window.
Sinisalo has conceded only once in his first three competitive games of the season, and while there has been the odd stray pass, he has generally been very steady. There haven't really been any worrying mistakes, and that's despite Celtic having conceded some good chances.
He produced a fine save late on against Dundee to preserve his clean sheet and the win, while Kilmarnock's goal was a good finish, and Dundee hit the woodwork five times, but there wasn't much he could do about those, albeit one did come from a distribution error.
Sinisalo also did well during the run-in last season, with Schmeichel struggling with a shoulder injury, so he has made a generally strong case.
