Celtic's interest in Scotland international defender Scott McKenna has ramped up as the Hoops are reportedly 'stuck' on the deal and want to get it over the line. He has been on their radar for a while, with scouts being sent out on four separate occasions, and now, they won't let it go.
The defender has enjoyed a fantastic season with Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, who now sit 15 points clear at the top of their league. He is set to win his first-ever league winners' medal and continues to be a regular feature in Steve Clarke's national team.
However, it won't be that easy because Zagreb are very keen to keep him at the club. They see him as one of the 'pillars' of this league-dominating team, and the last thing they want is for him to leave. Due to this, they seem to be demanding a fee of around £10 million for the Scotsman, one that could put Celtic off.
He could be keen to play in Scotland again though after featuring for Aberdeen earlier in his career. The 29-year-old has also played his football at Nottingham Forest and Las Palmas, so he would bring a wealth of experience to Parkhead.
Celtic desperate for another centre-back
The partnership of Liam Scales and Auston Trusty has divided opinion this season. Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to return from injury at the start of the next campaign, and you have to feel that he'd be brought back into the team quickly, but the Hoops still want to bring in another option.
McKenna seems like the most likely shot stopper to be brought in; however, there is also interest in former Liverpool defender Ozan Kabak. They could get him on a free transfer, with his Hoffenheim contract set to expire next month, and he could impress in the green and white.
The money that would be involved in a deal for McKenna may make options like Kabak more likely, as Celtic have to invest elsewhere on the pitch. A striker is a top priority, with no one really impressing this season apart from a late push by Kelechi Iheanacho, and a new goalkeeper is also being looked at.
There is real interest in a midfielder too, with Hearts loanee Marc Leonard being on the radar of the Celts. Birmingham City are expected to green-light his exit on a permanent basis once his loan wraps up, and he has been a standout for the Jambos this campaign. A move to Glasgow would be ideal.
