Celtic have been linked with a lot of players in recent weeks and it looks like they were very close to signing one of them in the winter transfer window. A move did not end up going through though and that might been for the better, for both the club and the player, because his latest comments have raised doubts about his suitability to life at Parkhead.

Celtic signed Jota in the winter, bringing him back from Rennes. But it appeared that another winger was on their radar despite that as they looked to strengthen Brendan Rodgers' squad.

The second winger we are talking about is Sondre Orjasaeter of Sarpsborg 08. The 21-year-old Norwegian talent appeared to be high on Celtic's transfer wish list, and they are believed to have even made a bid for him. Ultimately, a move did not materialise. There have been suggestions that the club could once again try to bring him in in the summer.

If the Hoops did indeed have such plans, they must change after Orjasaeter's recent comments. It feels like he might not be ready for the pressure that comes with playing football in Glasgow, especially for Celtic. As reported by the Daily Record, the Norwegian winger said:

"They were pretty brutal days for me in January. I struggled to sleep.

"I didn't know if I was going to be in Norway or not. I could have moved at any moment. I had to carry my passport with me everywhere.

"When the window closed, I felt a sense of relief. I came to the conclusion that I was determined to stay in Sarpsborg and play here, because I didn't know if I was ready to leave yet.

"Going abroad now is another level up. It had become more professional and everything. There were many thoughts going through my head during that period.

"If I get a little more time in Sarpsborg, I think I'll mature and be ready for it eventually.

"Of course, you will have a better life after your career if you have more money in your account, but you only live once. For me, it is just as important to have fun along the way. It is probably even more important

"I have a lot of friends to keep me grounded. I think if I only had football, my head would explode!

"I'm not much of a fan of football, but I love having it as a job. I couldn't have a better job than what I have. But when I see that my friends are going on holiday or to ski at Easter, I get jealous. I'm not going to lie.

"I hope that those clubs understand that not everyone can be the same. At the same time, I have my serious side too. And I think that kind of thing comes a little with age."

Based on those comments, one has to question how suited the winger is when it comes to playing for a club like Celtic. The Hoops are closing in on a potential treble at the moment, and yet, there has been nothing but criticism of the team in recent weeks.

That is the reality of life as a Celtic player. If you have a bad performance or two, you have to be ready to face criticism from the supporters. Every game is a must-win.

Is someone like Orjasaeter ready to take on that challenge? It does not feel like that judging from his comments.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with his viewpoint. It is wonderful that he wants to enjoy his football. But it takes a different type of mindset to succeed at a club like Celtic and it does not seem like Orjasaeter has developed that yet. He might in the future, but for now, it is best if the Hoops look elsewhere.
