The Scottish FA's recent decision on Vaclav Cerny has brought the last Glasgow Derby back into the spotlight after the dust had already settled on that result. After a long time, the Rangers managed to win at Celtic Park, with a late goal deciding the contest. But in the grand scheme of things, it did not end up having an impact on the title race, as many knew at that point as well.
Of course, it has been rare for the Rangers to win in Celtic's backyard in recent years. But even then, the reaction to the result felt a bit over the top.
One could argue that Celtic fans overreacted to it as well. After all, they had seen their side lost back-to-back Glasgow Derbies.
Earlier in the year, they had lost 3-0 at Ibrox. And that was followed by this 3-2 defeat at Parkhead. Just for context, Brendan Rodgers had lost just one Glasgow Derby before 2025.
Roy Keane gives reality check to Rangers fans about Celtic
Recently, Roy Keane and Ian Wright discussed the game on The Overlap. As reported by Glasgow World, the Arsenal legend said:
"It was a game, it was end to end, players trying, you know what I mean, tackles flying, no one got booked for 35 minutes, the VAR didn't get involved in it. And it wasn't like, oh my God, it's Real Madrid and Barcelona. It was Celtic and Rangers and they were going for it. And it was one of the most entertaining games I've seen for a long time."
But then, Keane gave the context of the game:
"Yeah, but the situation was that, the Celtic already have won the league, so Rangers are going to come and have a go, aren’t they? When we're watching games, our teams, like just United at the moment, or even City, more reluctant even for these clubs to go, their focus is more about not losing than going to win. That was definitely the case on Sunday. I know it's not the case every time they play."
In fact, there might have been a few things at play on the day which led to that result. Of course, there was no pressure on the Rangers. But another factor that should not be overlooked is that it appears that a lot of Celtic players have taken their foot off the pedal, with the title race as good as done.
We saw that in their most recent outing against St Johnstone as well. The Hoops lost to the bottom team in the league and could not find a way past the second-worst defence. Would that have happened earlier in the campaign? Most probably not.
