For most teams, recovering from a slump in form and finishing third in the Premier League would be celebrated. Manchester City are not like most teams though. Under the management of Pep Guardiola, winning trophies has become second nature to them. So, the 24/25 campaign was one to forget. They will be looking to shake things up, both on and off the pitch, and it looks like a Celtic Invincible could have a role to play.
Signing Premier League veterans towards the end of their careers is nothing new for Celtic. Kolo Toure spent the 16/17 season in Glasgow, which ended up being his last as a player.
Toure also spent time coaching Celtic for more than a year. And it looked like his career was on the right path. He became assistant manager at Leicester City before taking the main job at Wigan Athletic.
That did not go well for Toure though. He lasted less than two months as Wigan Athletic manager. Now, he could be set to join Guardiola's backroom team.
Celtic Invincible linked with Manchester City by Fabrizio Romano
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Kolo Toure and Pep Lijnders are under consideration at Manchester City to be part of Guardiola’s staff. Juanma Lillo, Inigo Dominguez and Carlos Vicens have departed.
Of course, Toure has history at Manchester City as well. He played for the club and that famous 2011/12 Premier League title with them. He has also coached their youth team. So, this feels like a no-brainer of a move for the Citizens.
Of course, Toure was a popular figure during his time at Celtic and we have nothing but best wishes for him, no matter what the next step is for him in football. Do not be surprised if you see him in the Manchester City dugout next season.
