Things seem to be moving fast at Ibrox now. The Rangers' takeover by an American consortium is now over the line. The next thing on the agenda has to be to bring in a manager who can compete with Celtic. The Hoops have won four straight league titles while their Glasgow rivals are coming off another trophyless campaign.
For a long while, Steven Gerrard was believed to be the firm favourite to land the Ibrox job. But in recent days, it has been suggested that the Liverpool legend has turned down the chance to make a return to the Rangers.
Of course, that is not ideal if you are the Rangers. There now seems to be a new favourite for the job though and an appointment is not far away.
As reported by SestaPorta.news, Davide Ancelotti will 99 percent go to the Rangers. He has been in negotiations for a few weeks now.
Celtic told Ibrox appointment close after Steven Gerrard rejects Rangers
Ancelotti has the experience of working at some top clubs around Europe, as the assistant to his legendary father. He has had stints at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and Real Madrid. Of course, that will help him as he begins his own journey in management.
It is worth pointing out though that coaching and managing are different jobs. There are a lot of very good coaches who struggle when they become managers. So, will Ancelotti be able to handle the pressure that comes with managing a team like the Rangers?
We will find out if he does indeed become the Rangers manager. If reports in the media are anything to go by, then it looks like a matter of time. Of course, Brendan Rodgers has seen plenty of managers arrive at and leave Ibrox over the years. Will Ancelotti be next on that list?
