It’s been quite a bumpy ride at Celtic for new boss Wilfried Nancy. After four defeats in a row in his opening games as manager, there weren't many backers for the Frenchman to keep his new job. Sunday's home win over Aberdeen, though, has helped settle the media frenzy, and there are early signs of a more accepting view of him among the fans.
The win was well deserved. The post-match statistics confirmed what everyone watching could see. Celtic dominated Aberdeen and could have won by a bucketful of goals. Imagine what the scoreline could have been if there was a more clinical finisher up top.
Fans have certainly noted the lack of a finisher and acknowledged that this is not down to Nancy and is seriously undermining his approach and, indeed, his results. Arguably ,the same problem applied in the first half at Dundee United in midweek.
Had Celtic netted a couple more goals from the great chances created in that first half, a win would have been highly likely. But we can only look forward from here.
Nancy in astonishing turnaround with Celtic fans
Instead that away defeat in Dundee led to a barrage of criticism for Nancy. It also sparked a flurry of chants against him at the ground and calls for him to be sacked immediately from fans. There was a buzz around social media suggesting the board was about to dismiss him, but perhaps common sense prevailed, and the claims were dismissed.
Sunday’s win hasn't removed all criticism against Nancy. The team selection raised many eyebrows, as did some substitutions. The players may have created many chances in front of the goal, but still looked vulnerable at times defensively.
But the win and the manner in which the team played has got more Celtic fans back onside with Nancy. That's quite a turnaround, given the depth of feeling against him recently.
#CelticFC not sure how anyone can criticise Nancy today for players being incapable of not taking their chances. A proven number nine puts away three of those chances. Thought Celtic played well and looked exciting

Actually played very good football (again) today. Players worthy of the jersey make a difference with Nancy at Celtic.

Social media and Celtic forums are sharing a more positive view now. Fans recognise the player quality issues Nancy faces, and they like the attacking style of play he brings. They still worry about the defence, but again recognise the need for more quality to be brought in there as well as upfront in the upcoming transfer window. They do see some hope for the rest of the season. And one fan called out a remarkable comparison with a past Celtic legend.
Not that this is anything other than a curious little fact, but Wilfried Nancy is the second Celtic manager to pick up just one win from his first five matches in charge.

The other was Jock Stein…
Sure, that level is a long way off yet, but it does, however, signal a need for patience and calm. The chance to see what backing the board provides Nancy in that January window. Fans will of course remain cynical about what signings may arrive. They’ll also be cautious about the Frenchman and his abilities as a manager too. In the meantime the chants to get him out of the club have quietened as we all wait to see where this story goes next.
