With a takeover on the horizon, Rangers fans seem to be hoping for a big-name managerial appointment this summer as they hope to find a way to catch up with Celtic. Barry Ferguson's exit was officially announced earlier. As it turns out, the Ibrox job might not be as attractive as some of them believe. Some news has emerged that must have left James Tavernier and company feeling 'disappointed'.
Jose Mourinho, Marco Rose and Sean Dyche are just some of the names to have been linked with the Rangers recently. But as it turns out, they have been turned down by a manager who might end up in the English Championship next season.
Will Still was the RC Lens manager this season and they finished a solid 8th in Ligue 1. The Belgian has already announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season and it looks like the Rangers already made their play.
As reported by L'Equipe, Still recently turned down Rangers. Southampton, who have been relegated to the English Championship, are interested in the 32-year-old manager, as are Hull City.
Celtic fans laugh as Ligue 1 manager rejects Rangers
Still first rose to prominence after crediting video games like Football Manager and Championship Manager for his start in coaching. And considering that he has managed two Ligue 1 sides and as well as Belgian club Beerschot at the age of 32, it certainly has worked out for him,
Still has overdelivered at his previous clubs. Thus, someone like him could have brought fresh ideas to Ibrox. But it looks like the move is not on the table after all.
It remains to be seen who the Rangers' next manager is and whether he is able to end the three-year streak of sacking managers in the middle of the season. Brendan Rodgers will be in the Celtic dugout.
