Celtic is at a crossroads right now. Fans know that change is needed, and the wheels are certainly in motion for change to happen. However, change has not happened, and instead, Martin O'Neill is still at the helm on an interim basis.
After playing 11 games, the Hoops sit second in the Scottish Premiership table. These are murky waters for the Glaswegian team, who were so used to being top that the throne still smells like them.
Now, there are a few options that Celtic is considering for the managerial vacancy. Believed to be at the top of the pile is Columbus Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy.
Celtic fans better hope that Kenny Miller's Wilfried Nancy claim comes true
According to former Celtic and Rangers player Kenny Miller, Celtic fans had better brace themselves for some exciting football if Nancy is hired for the job. Having had experience of facing a Nancy team, during Miller's stint as an assistant in MLS, Miller recalled a hilarious tale about facing Nancy.
In his own words, Miller said: “I’m interested to see where it will go because it looks like it will move forward. [Wilfried Nancy's] teams play really good football, and it was tough to play against. We were 5-0 down against them at home. It finished 5-4, and we should have got something from the game."
This is exactly what Celtic fans wanted to hear. The fans need some excitement back in their lives, as things were looking stale towards the end of Rodgers' tenure. Even before he left, there were signs that cracks were only being papered over.
Speaking more on Nancy's football philosophy, Miller said: “Will the Celtic players take to it? Have they got the players to play the way he wants to? He’s really possession-based and he focuses on that."
“They effectively played a back four, but they built out in a three, with two number sixes in front. The style is good and it’s exciting to watch. Will it be able to work at Celtic? Who knows?”
'Who knows' is exactly the sentiment echoed all around Glasgow right now. At this stage of the season, times are unprecedented in Scottish football.
It is a period of time where neither Celtic nor Rangers is on top. And the board must base their decision on this - the objective for Celtic is to win the league. That hasn't changed, and their new coach, whoever that may be, must be on board with this vision.
