Over the last few days, the rumours have pointed in the direction of Columbus Crew manager, Wilfried Nancy, as the frontrunner for the vacant Celtic job. The Frenchman has done a tremendous job during his time in the MLS but has no experience of managing in Europe which has left the supporters worried about his credentials for the post.
Nancy would not be the most high-profile name. In fact, many could argue that he is the biggest unknown when it comes to the candidates that have been seriously linked with the Celtic job since Brendan Rodgers quit.
The likes of Kjetil Knutsen, Kieran McKenna and Nicky Hayen might not be household names in European football. But they do have pretty good resumes and a proven track record of success. The same cannot be said about Nancy.
That does not mean that he could not be a brilliant manager though. Ange Postecoglou arrived at Celtic as a relative unknown and won five trophies in two seasons. So, never count anybody out before they have gotten a chance to show what they are capable of. And this Nancy story is certainly starting to pick up some momentum.
Anthony Joseph drops Wilfried Nancy to Celtic update
As reported by Anthony Joseph, Nancy refused to rule out a possible move to Celtic at his end-of-season press conference. He is one of the leading candidates for the Parkhead job. Talks continue with a number of targets and their reps.
Considering the number of times Nancy's name has come up in recent days, it is almost impossible that Celtic do not have interest in him. Now, it remains to be seen if they make a push.
For now, all we can do is wait and watch how this unfolds. And if Nancy does end up getting the job, he should be given the club and the fans' full backing.
