As one would have expected, Celtic are being linked with a long list of players as we get closer to the summer transfer window. The Hoops are expected to be busy. While they are still in contention to win a treble, we have seen a lot of cracks in the foundation since the turn of the year, as they have lost four league games in 2025, twice against the Rangers and most recently away to bottom-placed St Johnstone.

Despite all the speculation, the last thing one expects Celtic to do this summer is to sign another goalkeeper. Yet, if recent speculation is anything to go by, then it looks like one is on their radar.

As reported by Chronicle Live, Martin Dubravka has only just signed a new deal at Newcastle United but that hasn't stopped him from gaining interest. He has still been looked at by Celtic.

Celtic were linked with Dubravka last summer as well, before signing Kasper Schmeichel. But would such a move make sense anymore for the Hoops?

On paper, a move for Dubravka does not exactly make sense for Celtic. Schmeichel has already signed an extension for another year. On the other hand, they also have Viljami Sinisalo as his cover option.

Most Celtic fans would eventually want to see a long-term option be brought in to replace Schmeichel. But Dubravka himself is 36 years of age. So, he does not fit the bill in that respect.

Of course, he is a very experienced goalkeeper. Other than Newcastle United, he has also turned out for Manchester United in the past. At the international level, he has more than 50 appearances to his name for the Slovakian national team. But all things considered, the timing just does not make sense.
